Games can be used to create a structure for Universal Design for Learning (UDL) by incorporating its principles into the design of the game itself. Here are a few ways this can be achieved:
- Structure Choices: Games can be designed with flexible goals that allow students to work at their own pace and level. Have them choose the level of difficulty, the way they access information, the type of output.
- Increased autonomy is one of the best ways to make your curriculum culturally responsive and to motivate diverse learners!
- Increase Mastery-Oriented Feedback: Games can increase the timeliness of feedback and opportunities for reflection, allowing students to track their progress and make adjustments to their learning.

- Heighten salience of goals and objectives: Games can make it clear what the objective is and when it has been reached.

By incorporating these elements into the design of games, educators can create a structure for UDL that supports the diverse needs of all students. This can lead to a more inclusive, engaging, and effective learning experience for all students.
